The aim of the course is to increase enjoyment and understanding of the content and history of the National Gallery. Its collection offers an overview of European painting spanning over six centuries, including works from the latter half of the thirteenth century through to the opening of the twentieth. The course will use selected paintings to indicate development of styles and influences. The story of the expansion and development of the collection and its building is a continuing one, reflecting a changing society with changing tastes and preoccupations. The course will include a visit to the gallery, for which a separate charge will be made.
10 meetings. Fees: £75 plus annual Settlement Membership - £18/£13 - paid once, irrespective of number of courses attended.
