The Musée d’Orsay and its CollectionTutor: Margaret DavisDay: Tuesdays from 18th January 2011Time: 10.00 am - 12 noonRoom: Brunt Room
The aim of the course is to appreciate the range of art and design from the mid 19th Century to the first years of the 20th Century offered by the relatively recent Musée d’Orsay in Paris which is housed in the converted Quai d’Orsay railway station of 1900. The museum offers a unique opportunity to study and enjoy key Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings in the context of works(often huge!) from all areas of art and design which were very popular and successful in their day but often dismissed as ‘in bad taste’ more recently.
The course will seek to introduce an exceptionally striking collection and to touch on some of the issues raised by its exhibition and setting.
10 week term. Fees: £75 plus annual Settlement Membership - £18/£13 - paid once, irrespective of number of courses attended.
