Poetry WritingTutor: Richard BrownDay: Thursdays from 20th January 2011Time: 10.00 am - 12 noonRoom: 1
The aim of this course is to provide a stimulus for poetry writing within a tutor-led friendly and supportive group. The approach is through poetic themes and examples of modern poetry, not through standard classroom exercises or lectures. In the first hour we will read and discuss poems on a theme, or on a particular aspect of form, or we will look at a selection of poems by a modern poet. In the second half students will have the opportunity to present a poem of their own in draft – perhaps based upon the previous week’s theme – for enjoyment and discussion. Individual written responses by the tutor to students’ work will be available by arrangement (at a small extra cost). This course will be presented at a level equivalent to a first year degree course.
10 week term. Fees £75 plus annual Settlement Membership - £18/£13 - paid once, irrespective of number of courses attended.
