A Beginner’s Guide to Dating Buildings by Eye
Have you ever wandered down a picturesque high street or through a lovely old church and wondered what the architecture around you was telling you? In this two-hour session we will cover the basics of dating English buildings by eye, identifying the clues that will reveal a structure’s age, and taking a glance at the various phases of architectural design from the Saxon to the Victorian. No prior knowledge of architecture or history is needed, and by the end you should be able to impress your friends with your newfound skills as you stroll through churches and towns alike!

Name: Katherine Alcock
Bio: Katherine is a historian and London Blue Badge Tourist Guide who lectures on a wide variety of topics, in particular the history and architecture of London. She graduated from Queens’ College, Cambridge University, in 2011, before, temporarily, turning her back on the world of academia to train as an actor at the Oxford School of Drama. She has recently gained a masters in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and sits on the Membership Committee of the Institute of Tourist Guides. Katherine is a regular contributor to the Travel Channel’s ‘Mysteries at the Museum’ and ‘Beyond the Unknown’.
