The Art of Scotland: 1707-1950
This new course will explore Scottish art from the Act of Union until the end of the Second World War through a series of detailed, illustrated talks. Starting with the work of portrait painters Allan Ramsay and Henry Raeburn, the course will go on to discuss how artists such as David Wilkie and Horatio McCulloch helped shape the image of Scotland. The course will also look at the work of the realist Glasgow Boys and Girls, the art and designs of Charles Rennie and Mary Mackintosh and the vibrant paintings of the Scottish Colourists, who looked to mainland Europe for their artistic inspiration.
