Important information regarding upcoming roofing work

Dear Friends and Members

I am writing to you to let you know that the Letchworth Heritage Foundation (LHF) have organised vital roof renovation work at The Settlement to take place during March and April 2026.

Specifically, the LHF has contracted Rapleys to replace the roof on the art block and to carry out a number of cosmetic repairs to the roof of the main building and covered walkway.

As part of this work the construction team will be setting up onsite from Saturday 28th March, with the main works due to begin on Thursday 2nd April and a projected finish date of Wednesday 29th April.

We have been informed that the majority of the roof replacement work on the art block should take place, weather permitting, during the Easter closure (7th-12th April) and that all of these works should not overly affect our courses and workshops.

There may be some noise and slight disruption during this time, however, and you will notice scaffolding and safety fencing around the site whilst the works are carried out.

A small section of the car park (directly next to the Cruse Studio) will be used for the construction team’s welfare unit so please expect some slightly reduced car parking availability during this time.

Please also be aware of any health and safety, or directional related, signage that may be in place around the facility.

We sincerely hope that there will be minimum disruption, and that your learning and enjoyment of our activities will be not effected, whilst these important works take place.

Kind regards

Russell
