Contemporary Basketry for all abilities

This mixed-ability basketry course is contemporary in its’ approach and will use a wide variety of natural materials.
Beginners will start with simple forms on which to explore a range of basic techniques and material processes.
Improvers will build on their experience thus far, learning to manipulate and apply basketry techniques to new and sometimes experimental materials. Exploration of surface and form is at the core of learners’ creative outcomes.

Customer Information: A general toolkit for the course to include secateurs/garden snips, scissors, blunt-ended darning needle, spray bottle, old towel for keeping materials damp, notebook, and pen. A single blade pocket-knife and A4 cutting mat/board would be useful to avoid sharing.

Name: Hazel Godfrey
Bio: Hazel is a contemporary basket-maker whose inspiration comes from the natural world.
Graduating in 2004 with a degree in 3D Applied Arts, she began working professionally in 2008. Hazel works with a wide variety of natural materials, including willow. She has completed commissioned work for community outdoor spaces, public buildings, TV, and private clients, and has exhibited work on a Gold Award winning stand at the Chelsea Flower Show.
For over eighteen years, Hazel has taught basketry skills in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, and from her private studio near Hitchin.
