Country Houses and Gardens to Visit with Adam Smith

Many of us will be planning to visit houses and gardens this summer and this course will give some background to some well known sites (like the National Trust’s Claydon House) as well as those which take a little more planning to see (like the gardens at Stoke Bruerne).
1. Audley End (Essex); a Jacobean palace and Victorian country house.
2. Nether Winchendon (Buckinghamshire); a manor and estate village.
3. Stowe (Buckinghamshire); the greatest Georgian landscape garden?
4. Claydon House (Buckinghamshire); a riot of Georgian decoration.
5. Two Gardens and their houses, Stoke Bruerne (Northamptonshire) and
Benington Lordship (Hertfordshire)
