Settlement Sessions: Letchworth Ukulele Group

Hope I get Old before I die ….Talking about my generation.

The Settlement Session for February features Laluke ….Letchworth’s own ukulele orchestra. They feature music which spans generations from Chuck Berry to Cold Play and anything in between. They will tell their own story about a generation that want to keep music live, have fun and sing ……and hopefully that goes for the audiences too.

Live Aid changed popular music for ever … Today live performances are more important than records, rock bands continue to perform into their 70s or 80s, all recorded music is available online and the generational divide has broken down. Young people know the Beatles and Stones and pensioners appreciate Cold Play or Taylor Swift.

Add into that mix the ukulele phenomena which swept the world this century, local ukulele groups in every town, a place where beginners and experienced musicians can find a home to make music with friends…. A modern-day village band. Its not just Ukulele …there is bass, percussion, keyboard, accordion, harmonica,…..in fact “anything goes”.

The rule is …defy expectation and surprise people….so goodbye George Formby …hello stadium rock anthems.
